Having arrived back from Derry on Saturday morning, we then headed to Bangor that evening to spend the night at the Salty Dog hotel. I’d won an overnight stay in a raffle at the CIPR awards back in October. Obviously I was chuffed being a massive hotel fan!
I’d heard great reports about the Salty Dog, particularly the food! The hotel is situated on Seacliff Road, overlooking the marina, just a few minutes walk from the Main Street.
Upon arrival, we were delighted to be given a Deluxe Sea View room- a very large double room overlooking the Irish Sea. The room was decorated in a unique style, with lots of quirky touches including a “towel swan”, magazines and scented candles. The hotel was originally two Victorian houses, so there’s a real boutique feel about it.
On Sunday morning for breakfast we both went for the “Big Dog Fry”- what can I say about this fry! It was huge! The Big Dog includes Sausages, Back Bacon, Tomato, Black & White Pudding, a Choice of Eggs, Mushroom, Potato Bread and Soda Bread, as well as unlimited tea and coffee. Even Barry didn’t finish his!
The hotel is dog-friendly so a lovely place for those who can’t bear to leave their pets at home. We didn’t take our dog with us, but I see on TripAdvisor that they are very accommodating.
Bangor is the kind of place I would never have thought about going for a weekend break as it’s so close to Belfast, so I’m very glad I got to see the Salty Dog! I’d recommend going- even just for the Big Dog!
