Bushmills Inn Getaway

A few months ago we received a voucher for the Bushmills Inn for our wedding present. As someone who is constantly away somewhere, this was the perfect gift! A big thanks to my friend Michael!

I had used up most of my leave for the wedding/honeymoon so I had one day to use, so I decided to keep it for a Monday and head to Bushmills Inn some Sunday towards the end of the year.

We booked for Sunday 9th November, selecting the Mill House Deluxe room (£130 Bed and Breakfast). We could have picked the Mill House Classic for £110, but thought, because we had the voucher, we would treat ourselves! The room includes Super Kingsize beds, slippers and bathrobes, separate dressing area, and a fridge (amongst other amenities), so we were looking forward to a bit of luxury!

Before we arrived we visited Bushmills Distillery, which is only a few minutes drive away. The tour takes you round the whiskey-making process, looking at the different ingredients, distillery process and the bottling area. The tour was interesting, particularly finding out the whiskeys have different flavours because of the barrels they have been maturing in and what was stored in them previously! I had no idea this was the case. The tour ended with a free sample of their world-famous whiskey.

We checked into Bushmills Inn about 4oclock and wanting to just have a relaxing evening, we ordered room service for dinner. I picked a chicken and bacon salad served with sweet potato fries, while Barry went for the salmon served on wheaten. The food was nice with the bill coming to £23 with £5 tray charge on top of that. Maybe a little expensive for what we got, but enjoyed it nonetheless!

The room was really large, and the size of the bed was impressive. It’s fair to say I had a great night’s sleep! I also particularly enjoyed the powerful shower, which came with Elemis toiletries, no less! The next morning we had a cooked breakfast before exploring the hotel a bit more. It’s a very traditional hotel with big open fires and lots of cozy hidden areas. It’s a nice getaway when all you want to do is relax and enjoy a bit of luxury.
