A few months ago I completed the Couch to 5K programme at Girls Model School in north Belfast. Our graduation run was the 5K Parkrun at the Waterworks at the beginning of March and I was delighted to have a finishing time of 37 minutes- after all, I was a complete beginner!
Since then, I’ve been trying to run regularly, knocking a few minutes of my time in those 10 weeks! Gradually, I’ve been trying to run (as well as a little faster) a little further- 6K one week, then 7K then next.
On Friday night, I completed my first ever 10K- the Belfast Telegraph’s Runher Coastal run from Seapark in Hollywood, past Helen’s Bay beach, to Crawfordsburn Country Park! I did it!
My finishing time was 1 hour 14 minutes, managing to keep a steady pace of around 7 and half minutes for every km! Happy with that for my first time!
It was such a nice route, and a beautiful spring evening- but crossing the line was definitely the best part of the night!
