On Saturday night, as part of our weekend away to Tyrone, we stayed at the Greenvale Hotel, which is situated at Drum Road in Cookstown.
We checked in around 6pm and were shown to our room, which was a great sized room with a super-king-size bed, and decorated in a rich purple, gold and silver theme. (I see from the website that all rooms come with a super-king-size so top marks there for Greenvale.)
It was really nice to be welcomed with a selection of fruit, as well as a bottle of water in the room. All bedrooms have satellite TV, trouser press, hairdryer and tea/coffee facilities.
We headed downstairs for dinner shortly after getting settled in and were welcomed by a friendly waitress who gave us our menu. The menu was so big I wasn’t sure I would be able to pick, but in the end I went for the home-made cream of mushroom soup for starter, while Barry chose the prawn cocktail. For mains, I went for chicken filled with ham and cheese, while Barry opted for the Mixed Grill. We choose garlic potatoes and roast potatoes to share as sides.
What can I say about the Mixed Grill?! It was huge! So huge, in fact, he didn’t finish it! On the plate was a lamb chop, steak, bacon, sausage, chicken, burger, fried egg, tomato and mushrooms. A perfect dish for carnivores! Needless to say, we didn’t go for desserts!
A great night’s sleep was had in the large, comfortable bed but it was up early on Easter Sunday to head mountain biking. We grabbed breakfast at 8am before we left- both opting for the Irish cooked breakfast, but there was also a selection of cereals and fruits to choose from. I enjoyed the fry as it didn’t feel greasy or as if it had been cooked and left to reheat.
We checked out about 9.30am, both agreeing it was a very welcoming hotel, with a friendly and personal feel about the place.
