Weekend in Kilcorby Log cabins

This weekend we headed off down south to spend a few days at Kilcorby log cabins in Belturbet, County Cavan.

The site, set on the banks of the Shannon-Erne Waterway, has ten Scandinavian cabins- all consisting of three bedrooms (a double, a twin, a single, plus camp beds).

The cabins also have a bathroom, fully fitted kitchen, their own parking, picnic table and BBQ, with electric heating throughout.

We headed down straight after work on Thursday evening, arriving just after 9pm. We’d rented out 2 cabins as there were 11 adults and two young children in our company (Barry’s family to celebrate his mum’s birthday.)

On Friday, we made use of the great activities on site- from a games room with pool table, table tennis and fooseball (table football), to the outdoor tennis courts.

There are also bikes and boats for hire, but the big open log fire was more attractive to us in late November!

On Saturday we decided to all head into Belturbet (about 5km away) to have a look around the market town and have some lunch in the Seven Horseshoes Hotel. Some of the guys then stayed behind in Belturbet to watch the rugby and the football.

On Saturday evening we had a lovely party to celebrate Barry’s mum’s birthday and our engagement, before heading back up to Belfast on Sunday morning. I might add that apart from lunch in the hotel, all our breakfasts, lunches and dinners were cooked in the cabins, so it’s perfectly kitted out.

Kilcorby is lovely for a getaway ‘away from it all’- it’s something different, quiet, stress free and a nice way to spend time with family and friends!
